We have the right to rides!

In order to provide the children with opportunity to experience the “ordinary” life as much as possible, it was decided to go to the park by a city bus. The boarding house is located on the outskirts of the city, so at first the bus was almost empty, but along the way it became filled with people. People reacted differently to the presence of "non-ordinary children": someone pretended that it was nothing to pay attention to, someone responded with smile to the smiling children, someone took the seat as far from the children as possible. The children got used to the fact that people are usually very friendly with them and encourage further communication, so they tried (especially younger children) to pull hands to people on the bus, which of course was accepted disapprovingly.

In the park, almost every kid had problems with controllers who did not want to let them to the rides. The phrases “They are sick”, “They are not responsible for themselves”, “So you should not try the rides”, etc. were heard constantly. But with the help of the staff of the institution we had won and gained access to each ride and. As for the attitude of visitors to the park, the overall reaction was normal. Sometimes here and there other children pointed at them or said not very pleasant words. But in general, there was not so much of negativity, although there were lots of people in the park that day. The main lesson for the children, taken from this event, is that not all people can be trusted, and not all people can be kind. Making friends takes time. And we once again saw that a lot have to be done in terms of working with our society to prove that children and young people with disabilities are the same people, and that they have exactly the same rights.
