Trust, Professionalism, Teamwork of Specialists for the Sake of Children's Right to a Family

“World Without Borders” experts shared their experience in realizing the right of children with disabilities to a family with specialists who work in education, social sphere and health care of  Vitebsk region and  who are the participants of  a new project.
One important area of work on deinstitutionalization is the support of family’s well-being. As part of the preparation of the Roadmap for Deinstitutionalization, the basic needs of families raising children with disabilities were studied, tools were developed to help to unlock family resources, determine the developmental needs of a child, his zones of proximal development and, of course which is even more important, to organize social support for such a family.
Galina Ivanovna Rudenkova, project expert, and specialist Tatyana Korotkevich conducted a training seminar, which included theoretical and legislative foundations for activities aimed at realizing the right of children to a family, practical familiarization with the tools for assessing family and child resources.
The participants of the event noted that they received new knowledge and systematized the existing knowledge about the assessment of the needs of a child, about the situations in which a comprehensive assessment of a family and a child takes place. They emphasized the importance of the first contact with a family and the establishment of trusting relationships. The specialists were satisfied with the methods of deinstitutionalization, its basic principles, and the criteria for the successful implementation of the rights of children with disabilities.
It is nice  that the topic of deinstitutionalization is relevant in the work of social specialists, it shows that there is a common understanding that a family, the well-being of a family, is the main condition for the harmonious development of a child.
