Summing up the results of the project "To Know in order to Help"

From January 27 to 29, a group of experts, who had been working on the creation of the manual on teaching the rights of children with disabilities, gathered to hold a seminar. Representatives of the administration of boarding schools for children with disabilities and special developmental needs, representatives of correctional and developmental training and rehabilitation centers, and the Republican Resource Center for Inclusive Education took part in the wrap-up event.

At the seminar, the participants were presented with comprehensive solutions for training children in boarding schools in their rights, based on the developed materials; exchanged experience in conducting lessons on the rights for children with disabilities; got acquainted with the principles of introducing rights-based approach into the regular activities of house-boarding institutions.

During the interaction with event participants, the experts dwelled on the principles, conditions and recommendations for creating child-friendly educational environment at the institutions, adapting subject, space, organizational-semantic and socio-psychological components into the context of rights-based approach, with major focus on child’s individuality.

As a result of the seminar, the participants formed the ability to create special conditions and adapt the educational environment in the course of teaching children's rights, the ability to implement the principle of learning "through" rights in the process of children gaining life experience, the ways of applying the manual on teaching children's rights. The paricipants also learnt to adapt the material in terms of instructions, types of pedagogical assistance, means of communication depending on the capabilities of children.
