Goal is to Make Society Safe for Women with Disabilities

The discussion on the topic “Combating violence against women with disabilities”, initiated by the public association “Belarusian Association for Assistance to Disabled Children and Young Disabled People”, took place on 01/20/2023. It was attended by representatives of public organizations, government agencies.
The discussion focused on identifying barriers and factors contributing to combating gender-based violence (GBV) against women with disabilities, specific stereotypes underlying vulnerability, discrimination and violence against women with disabilities in Belarus and discussing possible solutions.
Specialist Tatyana Korotkevich shared the organization’s existing experience in overcoming communication barriers, building its own policy for protecting children’s rights and preventing violence, including gender violence, existing tools for monitoring the implementation of the rights of children with disabilities, teaching children with disabilities rights and prevention technologies.
This focused conversation about understanding problems and seeing their solutions was helpful, informative and motivating.
