On March 21 the first social dormitory in Belarus for young people with disabilities was opened in Polotsk.
Within the framework of this initiative, the Polotsk district executive committee passed a three-room apartment (the Marinenko district) to the territorial social services center of the Polotsk district. In a short time the apartment was repaired at the expense of extrabudgetary funds of TSSC, the CPA "World without Borders" assisted in the installation of sanitary equipment, the purchase of furniture and household appliances.
The project was presented in the Polotsk district executive committee. On behalf of the district authorities, the deputy chairman Pyotr Petkevich welcomed the participants of the meeting and drew attention to the unique character of this project in Polotsk district.
The support of the authorities in this field is of primary importance, noted Nikolai Orel, the deputy head of the Department of residential social service and capital construction institutions of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. For children who leave the specialized psychoneurological institutions, it is very difficult to become absolutely independent. Vera Astapenko, the head of the Department of social support and residential institutions under the Committee for labor, employment and social protection of Vitebsk district executive committee expressed her words of gratitude as well.
Svetlana Kasyanova, the head of the Department for labor, employment and social protection of the Polotsk district executive committee assured that in close cooperation with the district executive committee all issues can be resolved.
Tatsiana Payeuskaya, the Chairperson of the CPA "World without Borders" addressed the first "new settlers", giving her congratulations and advise. The director of the TSSC of the Polotsk district Alexander Shukhlev introduced the project in more details, and other specialists of the Center and volunteers who are always ready to help supported him.
In the meantime, happy residents of the dormitory invite to visit them. The apartment pleases with its order and coziness.
... Roman Morozov, who is registered in the employment center, participates in paid public works at Municipal housing maintenance department (ZHREU-1), could not imagine that he would go to work. For him the greatest happiness is to feel himself independent. Andrey Sarovaysky also became a participant of the project. Young people calculate the budget, make a shopping plan, go to the store.
In the beginning they are under the supervision of social work specialist of the Department of Accompanied Residence under the TSSC. Elena Kordan notes that the wards are trying very hard. The apartment is designed to accommodate four people, so soon they will have neighbours.
The implementation of the unique project "Chance for Everyone" in Polotsk will help the young people to form self-service skills and to engage in active social life. "This is a good project, now we can communicate more, make friends, get acquainted with those who are same as us..." - say the first participants of the project "Chance for Everyone".
